Everglades National Park is big. Really big. Shark Valley is at the northern edge of the park. No, there are no sharks here, but it is a good place to see Alligators. It is hatchling season right now, so the youngsters are all gathered round near Mommy. Although the gators here are well-habituated to humans, Mommy can get very crotchety if you scare Junior.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently in Florida for the winter.
Flamingo is located way at the southern end of the park. Much of this area is saltwater, and it is the place to see American Crocodiles. Crocs prefer saltwater, and the extreme tip of Florida is the only place in the US that they are found though they range all the way down into Central America. The crocs are more secretive than the gators and are much harder to find.
It then languished for quite a while until it was reorganized in and moved its office to the State Capitol building. By there were 10, members, and a bequest allowed the Society to obtain its own building in Indianapolis. A separate room displays some of the historical objects held by the museum, and the Conservation Room illustrates techniques for restoring and preserving them.
And there is a professional singer there who hands you a menu of Cole Porter songs and allows you to pick one for him to sing. Although rationing ended with the war, people were still encouraged to continue producing their own food.
