A Windham man was arrested this week on a string of charges stemming from the robbery of a man who went to a Berlin Turnpike motel in response to an ad on backpage. Jose Colon, 49, was arrested Tuesday on more than a dozen charges including first-degree robbery, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree kidnapping, they said.
The holdup happened March 7 at the Siesta Motel, Berlin Turnpike in Newington, as the man arrived in response to an advertisement on backpage. According to the arrest warrant, the man told police he had arranged to meet a woman at the motel and that, when he walked in, she greeted him with a hug and left to go to the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Colon was charged in connection with a similar robbery the same day, court records show.
His charges in that case were mostly the same, with the exception of a few that include promoting prostitution, the records show. A woman named Ruth Santana also was arrested in connection with the earlier case and charged with prostitution, among other things, the records show. Christopher Perry said Santana was involved in the latter case, too. She is in custody at the York Correctional Institution on the previous charges. By Christine Dempsey. More in News.
