Three prostitutes from Ipswich, Suffolk, have been found dead in the past eight days and forensic experts were trying to establish whether the third death was linked to the other two. A vicar who knew one of the dead prostitutes and works in one of the most deprived areas of Ipswich today said there was "a great deal of concern" that a serial killer was at large.
The body of the third woman - not yet named by police - was found in woods at Nacton, Suffolk, by a member of the public yesterday, police said. Gemma Adams, 25, who vanished three weeks ago was found dead in a stream at Hintlesham, Suffolk, on Saturday, December 2. The body of Tania Nicol, 19, was discovered at Copdock, Suffolk, on Friday - five weeks after she disappeared from Ipswich's red-light district.
Both Miss Adams and Miss Nicols were found naked in the same stream. Detectives said neither had been sexually assaulted and pathologists were trying to establish how each had died. The villages of Hintlesham, Copdock and Nacton are within about six miles of each other and close to the A14 trunk road which runs a few miles south of Ipswich and links the Suffolk port of Felixstowe with the Midlands.
Detectives are due to give more details about the third dead woman within the next few hours. Similarities They say both Miss Adams and Miss Nicols were murdered and there are "obvious similarities" between their deaths. Detectives were today also examining the body of a woman found in a river near Crowland, Lincolnshire, a few miles from the A1, on Sunday. Suffolk Police said there was no evidence to link that discovery with the three deaths in their county, although inquiries were being made to establish whether the deaths were connected.
Officers were also trying to establish whether the deaths of the three prostitutes in Suffolk were linked to the murders or disappearances of five other prostitutes in East Anglia over the past 13 years. People are very worried. That was how I got to know her," he said.
