When I sat down weeks ago and started watching screeners for the episode series, I knew that it starred Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore, I knew that they were a married couple who lived in the suburbs, and I knew that it was a romantic comedy with nontraditional elements.
I did not know that one of those nontraditional elements was Drew Barrymore killing and eating people.
When that tidbit started showing up in headlines, I flipped my lid. As Kayla reported two weeks ago, the cat was already out of the bag. Jezebel and EW were already talking about it. Then Netflix put it in the trailer last week. Series creator and showrunner sat down with Decider to take my umbrage for going along with this spoiler abuse, and we also talked a good bit about how the TV business has changed over the last few years and about his previous show, the ultra-sharp workplace comedy Better Off Ted.
DECIDER: I saw all 10 episodes of the series with no more information that who was in it, so I got surprised by some things that are not going to be a surprise for most viewers. Is that OK with you? This was the first question we had when we finished.
They want to promote the series. They want it to get out into the world. And if people are curious about it, there are going to be enough people who know what the hook is that it would be impossible to keep it under wraps.
