Police arrested Deidre Wheeler and charged her with seven counts of abandoning or endangering a child as well as injury to a child. They also arrested Lacharles Ramsey and charged him with six counts of abandoning or endangering a child. On Dec. Wichita Falls juvenile detectives later responded to the scene. According to the arrest affidavit, the child was left in the care of Wheeler and Ramsey while her mother was at work, but they left the child, her infant sibling, and several other children in the care of an year-old.
The two-year-old was severely injured and later died at the hospital. Neighbors said the dog had been aggressive before, allegedly bit another child and got into a fight with another dog. According to animal control, the pitbull was put down after the incident.
