Madison Singh is an exceptional nursing student who will make a phenomenal Emergency Room nurse. After spending many hours working with her, I saw the compassionate way she works with all of her patients. There were many times when she and I had a patient together and she would go out of her way to ensure that the patient was comfortable, had everything he or she needed, and was being cared for well. I have never before had a nursing student who was able to communicate with other nurses, patients, and providers so professionally and effectively.
She also had the intelligence base of knowing about many illnesses, treatment courses, and medications within not only the ER but also other areas of the hospital. She never fails to follow rules and policies and is very proficient in charting. She thinks quickly, which is very important in the ER setting. She was always able to perform patient assessments, follow the provider's orders, and provide treatment very efficiently. She is an eager learner and loves to be a team player.
She will have no problem excelling in her career. I will never forget a specific patient whom we had together. He received a tragic cancer diagnosis in the ER.
Madison was quick to provide comfort to the patient as well as his wife, and she was very invested in the patient's care as we transferred him to a different hospital. Madison's heart is what sets her aside from other new graduate nurses.
Sometimes, people claim that ER nurses need to have a tough shell which is true and that we should not become too emotionally invested in our patient's care. I disagree with this. I believe it is part of the nurse's pledge to always provide compassionate care to each and every patient, regardless of which department we are in. I have complete faith that Madison will continue to practice her nursing in this way- which will set her apart from other nurses and will help her become an outstanding ER nurse.
