Aurora wearing her primary tail - a red head head who looks like Ariel! The Aurora Borealis dance across Northern skies, an improvised orchestra of green, silver, red and indigo lights. Aurora grew up in the coastal mountain range of the Pacific Northwest, where the mountains meet the sea. Here wintry waters run up to a cold rainforest made of moss and evergreens.
As a young human, Aurora loved running down from the mountain and right into the bracing waves of the Pacific Ocean. On a rare clear day in Winter Aurora could sometimes see straight up from the ocean and into these Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, her namesake.
On one such night Aurora bobbed in the ocean as she waited for the lights. It was to be her last night before moving away from home. She was going to move South and was worried about how different everything would be. At just that moment the clouds parted and the Aurora Borealis began sparking vibrantly across the wide dark sky.
Streaks of light soared overhead, and their twin reflections shot around her in the ocean. These mirrored water colors took on a life of their own and began to encircle Aurora faster and faster. She instinctively dove down into a complete submersion of waves and light. There was a bright green flash and a rush of frigid air, for a moment the waves froze solid.
And then it all suddenly stopped. Aurora rose up from under the waves to a calm sea and a misty night, with her newly formed mermaid tail and fin shining iridescently in the faint moonlight.
