This latter responsibility was resumed by the Secretary upon abolishment of the position of Commissioner of Immigration by an act of March 30, 15 Stat. Immigration statistics were also collected by the Department of the Treasury beginning in , and by an act of May 7, 18 Stat. Beginning with the Chinese Exclusion Act 22 Stat.
