To reveal this community, we map thousands of locations that appeared in the periodical, revealing a geography that tilted toward rural areas and mid-sized cities instead of the major metropolitan centers that have received much of the attention within LGBTQ scholarship.
International Encyclopedia of Human Sexuality, Lesbian communities have emerged in the public sphere in Euro-America since at least the early s. This entry charts the history of Euro-American lesbian communities, with additional discussions of contemporary lesbian and queer spaces. This paper will explore the socializing dimension of the virtual sphere in founding a Lesbian community.
The paper is based on an on-going research, emerging from participant observation of lesbian forum. Other questions include the levels of influence that virtual discussion group have on the individual real world and the way virtual relationships challenge self-identity and self image.
