The position is involved in the interpretation of complex laws and regulations. The position serves as the University Coordinator. The office also serves veterans and veteran dependents by means of aiding them in receiving their educational benefits. The office serves as the liaison between the Department of Veteran Administration and the students enrolled here at the University.
The director works directly with academic departments , health services, counseling services and other campus offices to assist in providing reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities and with veteran students. Coordinate and manage the process for improving support services to students with disabilities campus-wide. Includes but not limited to:. Review and assess all documentation on students with disabilities to ascertain if they have a disability as defined by ADA and Section , thus making them a qualified entity.
Assure all programs, activities and services offered by the University are accessible to qualified students, employees and applicants with disabilities. Accessibility must also be maintained for the general public.
Supervise, coordinate and implement the standards of progress reports, internal audits, etc. Assure reasonable academic adjustments and accommodations are made in a reasonable time and as needed.
Write, edit, publish, etc. Arrange seminars, workshops, and attend classes and departmental meetings in order to keep the University family knowledgeable of the American with Disabilities Act ADA and Section Attend meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. Assist in counseling or refer veterans, veteran dependents and students with disabilities to ascertain which services would be most beneficial to that student.
