A Massachusetts business man is accused of providing financing and financial advise for an illegal brothel in Manhattan. David Stasior, 53, of Concord, was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and one count of conspiracy to violate the Travel Act. He was arrested by federal agents and appeared in court Wednesday. According to a press release the U. Attorney's Office of Massachusetts, Stasior was involved with a larger web of at least 10 illegal brothels operating in Manhattan.
The brothels were independently owned but worked cooperatively, and employed South Korean prostitutes brought to the U. Stasior is accused of providing start-up money for one of these brothels as well as assisting with the establishment's record-keeping and finances.
As alleged, the defendant financially supported and profited from this business that exploited vulnerable women and laundered money," Acting U. Attorney Joon H. Kim said. Documents sent from Stasior to the owner of the brothel show the defendant referring to himself as a "partner"in the business. The brothel Stasior allegedly worked with used a website to advertise women and the establishment.
Stasior is accused of paying for and managing the online advertisements, authorities said. Police also obtained spreadsheets that show Stasior invested in the brothel and expected to be paid back the "debt" the brothel had incurred as a result of his commitment.
