All charges against a former Seton Hall basketball standout accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his Newark apartment more than two years ago have been dropped.
Michael Nzei, 28, was charged with second-degree sexual assault, third-degree criminal restraint, and simple assault after a woman told police he attacked her in his Newark home on Christmas Day After graduating from the university with an MBA, Nzei went to work in December for Goldman Sachs as an associate in finance before he was promoted to a vice president position earlier this year, according to his LinkedIn.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in support of the charges, the woman told police she went to a bar in Newark with Nzei about p. After a few hours, Nzei asked the woman to drive him to his apartment, according to the affidavit. The woman told police she sat on a couch with Nzei and the two drank wine together and listened to music. The woman told investigators she waited for Nzei to fall asleep and then texted her mother, who called police, authorities said.
The woman left the apartment and asked the concierge in the lobby to also call police, authorities said. The woman had bruises on her face, authorities said.
